The things people ask us before they try it.
Answered in prose, not bullet points. If the question you have isn't here, email hello@plinth.page and we'll answer it — and probably add it.
Q.01Is Plinth a website builder?
Not in the usual sense. You don't open a drag-and-drop canvas. You don't pick a template. You talk to Claude, like you already do, and at the end of the conversation there's a real website at a real URL. Plinth is the deploy layer underneath — the hosting, the HTTPS, the forms, the analytics, the version history — that makes that possible.
We tend to call it conversational publishing, which is a phrase nobody asks for and everyone understands once they use it once.
Q.02Do I need to know how to code?
No. Claude writes the code — you describe what you want in plain English. “Make the header bigger.” “Add a page about our wood-fired kiln.” “Make this feel warmer.” Those are all valid instructions.
If you do know code, the source is right there. You can read it, edit it, copy it out, or host it elsewhere. Nothing is hidden.
Q.03Does this work if I've never used Claude before?
Yes — but it works better the more Claude already knows about you. If you've been using Claude to write your copy, plan your brand, or think through your business, all of that context becomes the foundation of your site. If this is your first Claude conversation, you'll describe things from scratch and it'll still build something good.
Either way, Claude asks before it invents. If it doesn't know what your colour palette is, it'll ask.
Q.04How fast are Plinth sites?
Fast enough that you'll stop thinking about it. Every site is pure HTML, CSS, and JavaScript served from a CDN with 300+ edge locations. There's no client-side framework, no template engine, no server waking up to respond. Most Plinth sites load in under a second.
Q.05Can I use my own domain?
Yes. If you already own a domain, point one DNS record at Plinth and it's live within a few minutes with automatic HTTPS. If you want to buy a new domain, you can do that from the dashboard too.
Q.06What happens if I outgrow Plinth?
You take your site with you. Every Plinth site is a folder of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and assets — not a proprietary database export. Download the whole thing, point your DNS somewhere else, and you're done. We don't charge an export fee. We don't hold your copy hostage.
Honestly, this is the part we're proudest of.
Q.07Can I have other people edit the site?
Yes. Invite collaborators with editor or admin roles. They can edit through their own Claude conversation, or through the inline visual editor in the dashboard. Edits are deploy-tracked, so if someone breaks something, you roll back.
Q.08How do I add images?
Three ways. Upload from your device — Claude generates a link you open in a new tab and drag files onto. Pull from any public URL — paste it into the chat. Or search Unsplash directly from the conversation. All three work in the same flow.
Q.09Can I add a blog, portfolio, or other collection?
Yes. Tell Claude to create a collection — blog, case studies, team, portfolio, donors, events. Claude writes the entries, sets up the structure, and generates the index pages. You can also manage collection entries from the dashboard afterward.
Q.10Is my site password-protected?
Not by default — new sites are public. But you can password-protect individual pages or the whole site with a single setting. Useful for pre-launch, client review, private portfolios, or a launch countdown.
Q.11Does Plinth run ads on my site?
No. Ever. On any plan.
Q.12Do I need a paid Claude subscription?
No. Plinth works with any Claude plan, including the free tier. A paid Claude plan gives you more messages per day — which is useful when you're iterating a lot — but it isn't required to use Plinth.
